Lafayette—Walter H. “Bummy” Hatke, 75, 5959 Sleeper Road, Lafayette, died at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 1989 in Home Hospital.
  He was born Nov. 24, 1913 in Lafayette, the son of George and Magdalene Hatke. He was married June 19, 1937 in Lafayette to Margaret Louise Wiese, who preceded him in death April 11, 1972.
  He was a life resident of the Lafayette area and attended schools at St. Boniface and Jefferson High. He was a dairy farmer in the Shadeland community a number of years before retiring in 1987.
  He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Union Township Farm Bureau.
  Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gaylord (Jean M.) Marshall II, Dayton, and Mrs. Thomas (Mary A.) Shonkwiler, Battle Ground; five sons, David L., James D. and Charles A., all of Lafayette; John F., West Point, and Dennis G., Kingman; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Frieburg, Haywood, Calif. and 14 grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Thomas C., two grandsons, Daniel J. and Aaron P. Hatke, and four brothers, Carl, William, Theodore and George Jr.
  Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today (Friday) at Soller-Baker Lafayette Funeral Home, with Scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Boniface Catholic Church with Father Ray Chappa, OFM, officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.- thanks to S
