MAHALA DOAN HARVEY, daughter of Washington and Elizabeth Doan, was born January 20, 1838 at Plainfield in Hendricks County, Ind., died very suddenly at the home of her daughter, Florinda Dudley, in Mecca, Parke County, Ind., May 2, 1915, aged 77years, 3 months and 12 days.
She grew to womanhood in the town where she was born. Was married to Wm. Harvey, son of Uncle Harlan and Aunt Ruth Harvey, on March 26, 1857. Ten children were given to this union six boys and four girls, seven of whom are left to mourn for her, together with 21 grand children and 9 great grand children.
She was converted at or soon following the remarkable revival meeting held by Jacob Weymire, Philip Weaver and others at the Heath school house in the year 1872, and up until the time of her departure often in the public assembly her voice was raised in prayer and testimony to the Grace that saved her.
She was left a widow on March 17, 1908 and has since made her home with her children and waited often anxiously for the call to her Heavenly home, that came so sudden and found her waiting.
Funeral services were conducted from the Friends church Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock by Rev. Orley Smith assisted by Rev. Levi Woody and Aunt Sarah Lindley. Burial was made in the Rush Creek cemetery. – thanks to S&E
