HARSHBARGER, Samuel Lester

Samuel Lester Harshbarger, 55, a highly respected farmer of the vicinity of Hillsboro for several years, died at his home southeast of Hillsboro Friday morning. He had been ill for several months suffering from a
complication of ailments and underwent surgical operations during his illness. He was born Feb 26, 1893 in the vicinity of Elmdale, the son of Labon and Anna Harris Harshbarger. On Feb 16, 1916 he was married to
Reta Swank and this union five sons were born. The eldest, Earl died at age 17 and one half months and a second, John Russell died of wounds received in action when serving with the American Army in Africa during
World Wr II. the survivors are the widow and the other three sons, Donald, Paul and Harold, all of the vicinity of Hillsboro; two grandchildren; two brother, JL Harshbarger of California and LL Harshbarger of Indianapolis and a sister, Mrs. Maude Wood of Plymouth. Mr. Harshbarger, who was a member of the Liberty Chapel Church near Elmdale, had devoted most of his life to farming A large number of sorrowing friends and relatives attended he funeral service held at the Hillsboro Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Arthur Howell of Pittsboro, former local pastor officiated, assisted by Rev. James Wire. Mrs. Mildred Cooper presided at the organ for the service and the pall bearers were: Ernest Oppy, Crawfordsville; Clay Stonebraker and Homer Goff, both of Elmdale; Leslie Bell, Marion R. Cooper and Verlin Ellis of Hillsboro. Those carrying the floral tributes were: Mr. and Mrs. Sid Longworth; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Harshbarger; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harshbarger; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oppy; Daryl Oling; Misses Lois and Carolyn Harshbarger; Mary Mildred Patton; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Coffing, all of Crawfordsville and vicinity; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Olin and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Meharry of New Richmond; Mr. and Mrs. Jean Clark, Linden; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Swank and son Jackie of Waynetown; Morris and Tommy Wood of Plymouth. Burial was in the Liberty Chapel Cemetery near Elmdale.
