Chico Butte Co, Aug 30 – Severe head injuries suffered last Thursday when he fell from the front porch of his new home at 320 Oak Street proved fatal for William Jasper Harris, 92 who died Saturday in the Enloe Hospital. He was born in Fountain Count, Indiana in 1845. He came to California in 1857 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. WJ Harris and settled at Yuba City in 1858. The journey from Indiana was made by ox team. The family later settled at Meridian where they farmed and in the late 70s Harris owned his own farm near Artois. In 1890 Harris and his first wife, the former Maggie Creighton moved to Chico. In 1905 following the death of his wife, Harris joined the Klondike gold rush in Alaska. In 1919 he married Miss Frances Wooten. Besides the widow he leaves the following children: Mrs. James Dawson of Chico; Cora Hammer of Oakland; Lillian Cooper of Oakland and Al Harris of Sacramento. – kbz
