Bert Harper, 69, former Veedersburg resident was fatally injured Thursday Jan 6 when he was struck by an auto while crossing a street in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Mr. Harper spent his entire life in Veedersburg and has many friends in this part of the country.  He was enroute to work in Royal Oak the morning of the fatal accident and was a prominent building contractor there.

He was the son of Morton and Dora Minor Harper and was married to Bertha DeAth.  Following her death he married Mrs. Emma Neff, who survives. Surviving besides the wife are two son, Paul of Chicago and Clarence of Royal Oak; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Bert Smith and Mrs. William Cox of Veedersburg; Mrs. Edna Groves of Youngstown, Ohio and Mrs. Carol Slusser of Danville, Ill. Funeral services were held Saturday in Royal Oak with burial in the Oakview Cemetery near there.   --- transcribed by kbz

Bert Harper, former resident of this place died at Royal Oake, Michigan Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, four hours after he was injured in an automobile accident. Details of the accident were not learned by relatives at Veedersburg who received the death message but it was known that he was en route to work at the time. Mr. Harper, who was the son of Morton and Dora Minor Harper, spent all of his early life in Veedersburg. While here, he was employed at the brick plant but in recent years he had been a building contractor.  He was twice married, the first time to Bertha DeAth.  Following her death, he was married to Mrs. Emma Neff. The survivors include the wife, two sons, Paul of Chicago and Clarence of Royal Oak and four sisters: Mrs. Bert Smith and Mrs. William Cox both of Veedersburg; Mrs. Edna Groves of Youngstown, Ohio and Mrs. Carroll Schlusser of Danville, Ill. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Royal Oak with burial there also. – kbz
