West Lafayette—Dr. Murray E. Harden, 73, died at 6:32 p.m. Friday, April 14, 1989, in Indiana Veterans Home. He lived in West Lafayette prior to entering the Home in 1979.

  He was born Oct. 5, 1915 in Covington. He was married May 26, 1941 in Attica to Marjorie M. Milligan, who survives.

  He graduated from Covington High School and Indiana University. In 1941, he graduated from Indiana University Medical School and served his internship in Indianapolis. After serving as a major in the Army Medical Corps during World War II, he returned to Indianapolis for his three-year residency. He moved to West Lafayette in 1949.

  He was on the staff at St. Elizabeth and Home hospitals, as well as having a private practice, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Due to illness, he retired in 1965.

  He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, American College of OBGYN, American Medical Association, Phi Chi Medical fraternity and was a former member of Rotary International in Lafayette.

  His mother, the late Cecil M. Murray Harden, was a congresswoman from Indiana from 1949 until 1959.
  In 1978, Gov. Otis Bowen named him Sagamore of the Wabash.

  Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Robert L. (Judy) Poor, West Lafayette; two sons, Timothy M., Indianapolis, and Thomas F., Columbus, Ohio, and seven grandchildren.

  Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hippensteels, Rev. Gerald Dooley officiating. Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery.
