Mrs. Lucy Plowman Hanna, beloved wife of SC Hanna, died at her home in Howard Sunday Feb 3rd about 10 a.m. after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Hanna came to Howard as a bride in the early 80s and has lived here continuously since. She was a woman of ability and culture and she was useful and helpful to all with whom she came in contact and those who knew her best loved her most. The hearts of all sorrow with the bereaved husband in his great sorrow. Funeral services were held at the home and interment in Grace Lawn cemetery Tuesday at 10 a.m. Lucy Plowman Hanna, daughter of Nathan and Lucinda Plowman was born at Attica, Ind June 26, 1859. She spent her girlhood days in Attica until she was married to SC Hanna, Dec 20, 1881 when she came directly to Howard, Kansas with her husband and here she lived until her death, Sunday morning Feb 3, 1918 at 10 o’clock at her home where she had lived 31 years. Mrs. Hanna was the youngest of 10 children, her brother, Edgar L. Plowman of Evansville, Ind being the only surviving member of the family. – kbz
