Crawfordsville, Nov 1- Pfc Vernon Edward Haniford, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs.  Joe Haniford of near Hillsboro was killed in action in France on October 16. He had been in the service since December 1942 and overseas for several months. He wa sin the infantry. A brother, Sgt. Joe Haniford is now somewhere in England with the American forces.

Crawfordsville – Mr. and Mrs. Joe Haniford of Hillsboro, west of here, were notified that their son, Pvt First Class Vernon Edward Haniford, 22 was killed  in France Oct 16.

Visitation at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, 5-8 p.m. Thursday with Rosary at 4:45 p.m. Funeral services in St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica at 10 a.m. Friday, Father Duane Craycraft and Father Thomas E. Fox officiating. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Two grandchildren, Stephanie Lee Haniford and Sarah Romine survive. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Vernon Haniford who was killed in WWII. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Fund.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haniford living northwest of Hillsboro, were last week notified by the War Department that their son, Pfc. Vernon E. Haniford, aged 22, was Killed In Action in France on Oct 14. Pfc Haniford who entered the service in December 1942, was several months ago sent to England and wasa about Sept 1 transferred to France where he was serving in the infantry.  He was born Feb 17, 1922 at Newtown son of Joe and Sylvia Babb Haniford.  He graduated in 1940 from the Hillsboro HS after which he worked on his father’s farm until inducution into the army.  A brother, Sgt Joe Haniford Jr is now in England. Ed Haniford of Newtown is grandfather of the young man.  - kbz
