HALLETT, Charles - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Charles Hallett, 75, prominent retired farmer and later a businessman in Waynetown, died early Thursday morning at his home here, following a heart attack suffered Wednesday morning. Mr. Hallett was born in Montgomery County, July 10, 1881, the son of Felix and Rebecca Newkirk Hallett. He was married Feb 2, 1902 to Gertrude L. Summers, in the Lutheran Church parsonage one mile east of Wallace. The bride was a resident of the Wallace community. Mr. Hallett was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 495 in Wallace and 25-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Low 12 Club in Wallace. He also held membership in Scott's Prairie Christian Church. As a youth Mr. Hallett attended the Wallace School. A farmer for nearly 25 years, following his marriage, Mr. Hallett retired from his farm duties in 1926 when he entered the hardware business in Cates which he conducted for 10 years. Then, for a number of years he was engaged in the retail hardware business in Waynetown in partnership with his brother, Elijah Hallett. He retired from that business in 1947. While residing on his farm near Wallace, Mr. hallett served a term as trustee of Jackson Twp. in Fountain Co. and later he served as a member of the Board of Commissioners. Mr. Hallett is survived by his widow; two sons, Lacy Hallett of Odell and Oral J. Hallett, Rt 1, Waynetown; five grandchildren; two greats and two brothers, Elijah of Waynetown and Alva or Alamo. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, with Rev. John A. Servies as his officiating minister. Burial will take place in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
