Attica – Attica’s oldest resident, William I. Hagley died at 10:03 p.m. Monday in Community Hospital, Williamsport at age 105.  He had been ill three weeks. Born March 11, 1874 at Covington, he lived there until moving to Attica in 1942. He was a farmer until his retirement. Prior to entering the hospital, he lived at Woodland Manor Nursing Home for seven years. Mr. Hagley lived during the administrations of 22 presidents and in 1978, Attica Mayor Stan Evans proclaimed March 11 as William Hagley Day.  When asked in a 1977 interview what he attributed his longevity to, he said, “chewing tobacco and eating candy mints.”  He was married to Anna Coonse, who died in 1937.  Mr. Hagley was a member of the former Tabernacle Church at Covington. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Roy (Frances) Hannon Fix of Attica. - kz x3

Attica News -- Mrs. Frances Hannon Barfell will have open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in her home at 920 S. Brady Street honoring her father, William Hagley, who will be observing his 99th birthday. He is a native of Covington. He is now making his home at the Woodland Manor Nursing Home.

William Hagley of Attica observed his 100th birthday this week at the Woodland Manor Nursing Center where he resides. He was born near Covington and spent most of his life in that area. He had five children, two of whom are living: Mrs. Frances Hannon and Mrs. Laura George, both of Attica.  14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
