Attica – Former Attica resident, Mrs. Mattie May Haas, 99, who resided with a son, Alvin D. Haas of 1102 ½ N Griffin St, Danville, Ill died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Americana Nursing Care Center in Danville. She had been seriously ill since January. She was born in Newtown Sept 19, 1886, and reared in Fountain County by her foster parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry Overbay… She had spent most of her life in the Newtown-Attica area and moved to Danville three years ago. Mrs. Haas had been a clerk in various stores in Attica, worked in the Attica Bakery at one time and formerly owned a dress shop in Attica. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Attica, and a former organist in the church. Her marriage was Dec 27, 1906 near Attica to Carl A. Haas, a former Newtown schoolteacher. He died Aug 16, 1946. Surviving with the son, Alvin is another son, Harold P. Haas of Camp Verdi, Arizona.

Friends will be received at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, 6-9 p.m. today. Service in Maus Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday the Rev. Earl Owen officiating. Interment Newtown Cemetery. Surviving are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One son, Perry Haas preceded in death in 1980. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Attica.
