Donald O. Gustus Jr. of RR 2, Attica, age 32, drowned in the Wabash River May 11, when his boat overturned while he and another man were putting out trout lines. The other man was able to swim to shore. Fountain County coroner Robert Maus ruled the cause of death was accidental drowning. Gustus’ body was found about 11 a.m. Friday in the river just north of the Monroe Street boat landing at Attica. Gustus was born at Riverside, November 17, 1949, the son of Donald O. and Wilma V. Hyson Gustus. December 27, 1968, he married Deborah K. Bray, who survives. A 1967 graduate of Attica High School, he was formerly a district sales manager for Duncan Electric in Lafayette and for the past two years was self-employed. He was a member of Attica Masonic Lodge.
Also surviving are a daughter, Leah Dawn, and two sons, Dax Alan and Ryan Bray, all at home; two sisters, Shirley LaRusso of Hinsdale, Illinois, and Martha Jean Gustus of Boyington Beach, Florida; and a brother, Billie Gustus of Attica.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Maus Funeral Chapel in Attica with Rev. Charles Anderson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery at Attica.- thanks to S
