GRUBBS, Elmer - WWI

Elmer Grubbs, 65, a well known Fountain County man died at his home in Silverwood last Friday morning. Mr. Grubbs operated a grocery store in Silverwood and was a veteran of World War I, member of the Zion Baptist Church at Waterman, Indiana; of the Cayuga Masonic Lodge, the Kingman Order of Eastern Star, the Covington Legion post and the Rockville Low 12 Club.  He was well known throughout the county and had been a candidate for County Treasurer on the Democratic ticket a few years ago.  Mr. Grubbs was born Aug 22, 1888 in Fountain County, son of Amos and Lavona Wiley Grubbs. He married Ethyl Osborn who survives. Surviving are the wife; a daughter, Mrs. Ceo Ann Sowers of Georgetown; three grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Grubbs of Danville, Ill.  He was preceded in death by a sister and 9 brothers.  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon with burial in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. – kbz
