COVINGTON — James Gross, age 47, of 922 Harrison St., Covington, died unexpectedly at about noon Friday, April 19, at his home. He had been in ill health for seven and a half years. Mr. Gross was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Indianapolis, the son of Harry and Alma Norris Gross. He was married Jan. 2, 1942, to Dorothy Mae Van Hyfte of Attica and she survives. He had been employed as a livestock dealer and in the construction business, and also was a former superintendent at the Interstate Sand & Gravel Co. here. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union 841, the Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Fulton Banta Post 291, American Legion of Covington. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one son, James, a student at Indiana State University at Terre Haute; two sisters, Mrs. June Trombly of Paradise, Calif., and Mrs. Hazel Gouty of Covington; two brothers, Stanley and Robert Gross, both of Covington; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gross of 1012 Third St. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hegg Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery here where military rites were conducted at the graveside. --waw
