Veedersburg, Ind. - Mrs. Gertie Gross, 81, of Veedersburg Route 4, died at 1:30 a.m. Wed. Oct. 6, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. She had been admitted two hours earlier. She was born in Fountain County, Aug 10, 1890, the daughter of Samuel H. and Susan Smith Ward. She was married in Fountain County in 1909 to Jesse Gross, who died in 1954. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Stone Bluff and was secretary of the Ladies Aid for the past 20 years and a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She was a follower of all athletics at Fountain Central High and had been honored by the students and faculty. Services were at 2:30 .m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Stone Bluff, with the Rev. August Huber officiating. Burial was at the Osborne Prairie Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Parham Funeral Home from 2-5 and 7-9 Thursday.  -- thanks to Beth R for typing this :)

Veedersburg - Mrs. Gertie Gross, 81, of Rt 4, Veedersburg died early Wednesday morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Illinois where she had been admitted two hours previously. A member of First United Methodist Church at Stone Bluff, she was secretary of the Ladies Aid for 20 yeares and member of the choir and home demonstration club. She was honored several years ago for her faithful following of Fountain Central athletics. Born in Fountain County Aug 10, 1890, a daughter of Samuel H. and Susan Smith Ward, she married Jesse Gross in 1909 in Fountain County (sic - 12 Jan 1910 Bk 14 p 410). He preceded her in death in 1954. She was also preceeded in death by a son. Survivors include a son, Harold "Red" Gross and daughter, Mrs. Dorothy McGary, both of Veedersburg; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Stone Bluff First United Methodist Church with Rev. August Huber officiating. Burial will be in Osborn Prarie Cemetery near Veedersburg. Friends may call at Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg after 2 p.m. Thursday.
