GRITTEN, Phillip

Phillip Jean Gritten, 49, a former Covington resident, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, October 31, at his residence in Mabank, Texas. He had been ill a year.
Born September 6, 1934 in Danville, Illinois, he was the son of Albert Thomas and Pearl Sutton Gritten. On June 3, 1956 he married Sally L. Hunter, who survives. A 1953 graduate of Covington High School, he was employed with Skaggs Drugs for 22 years. He moved from Covington to Pueblo, Colorado in 1958 and lived there until 1968 when he moved to Texas.
Other survivors include his mother of Covington; three sons, Scott Gritten of Dallas, Texas, Joe Gritten of Hawaii, and Jack Gritten, at home; a brother, Albert Gritten Jr. of Slidell, Louisiana; and a sister, Mrs. William Rhodes of Kouts.
Services were conducted Friday at Benson Chapel United Methodist church west of Covington with Rev. Robert H. Miller officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
