Bert C. Grimes was born near Russellville, August 25, 1873, a son of Henry R and Anna Hargrave Grimes. He departed this life on January 7, 1969 at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 14 days.
He was married August 3, 1903 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Ella Price, who preceded him in death on December 14, 1958. They celebrated
their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1953.
Bert was a barber in early life and later worked with a railroad maintenance crew. He was most recently employed at the Marshall Studios, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 82 years.
Bert was a good husband and father. His patient, quiet manner endeared him to those with whom he worked. He will be missed in the neighborhood where he had lived for forty years. He was a member of the Veedersburg Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Willis, in 1954, and 2 brothers.
Surviving are a daughter, Augusta of Veedersburg; four sons, Robert, Leland, and Arthur of Veedersburg, and Hollis of Lynn, Indiana; four grandchildren, Esther and John Grimm of Lynn and Alan and Bobby Grimes of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Thompson of Hobart; three brothers, Edward of Dallas, Oregon, Ollie of French Lick, and Carl of Martel, Ohio.
Services were held at the Methodist Church, January 10, with the Pastor, the Rev. Hubert Neth, officiating. Miss Wilda Bell was at the organ. Pallbearers were: Kelso Cartwright, Ernest Ludlow, Glen Forkner, Arthur Parham, Roy Nelson.
Interment was made in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. - jz
