Lafayette, Feb. 17 -- Mrs. Zoe V. Gray, 48 wife of William B. Gray, former superintendent of the Indiana State Pythian home, died Thursday night at 8:34 o'clock at the family residence, 515 So. 9th St, after an extended illness. Mrs. Gray received a fractured vertebrae in an automobile accident in April 1927 and complications arising from this resulted in her death. Born on Aug 23,1884, 7 miles south of Veedersburg in Fountain County, she was the daughter of William and Kate (Caldwell) Jones. She was graduated from Kingman HS and State Normal. Before her marriage, she taught in the grades of the Kingman school, south of Veedersburg. On June 19, 1912 she married Mr. Gray and they resided in Covington until 1927 when Mr. Gray came to Lafayette as the first superintendant of the Pythian Home. Mrs. Gray was assistant superintendent and matron at the home under her husband's administration and it was because of her poor health that he resigned over a year ago. Mrs. Gray was a member of the Scott's Prairie Christian Church, SE of Veedersburg. She was a past matron of Troy Chapter OES; Olympia Temple of Pythian Sisters; Henry Lee Chapter, DAR and Book Lover's Club of Covington. Surviving with the husband, are two daughters, Elisabeth J. Gray and Katharine K. Gray, both at home; also her father. William Jones of Veedesburg and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Jones Flaugher, of Urbana Il. The body was removed to the Bradshaw Funeral Home, Rev. J. Newton Jessup of the First Christian Church and Pythian Sisters will conduct a memorial service Saturday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Sunday morning at 9:30 o'clock the body will be taken overland to Covington where a service will be held at 11:00 o'clock at the first Christian Church with Rev OW McGaughey officiating.
