Veedersburg, Aug. 16 — William B. Gray, 83, first mayor of Veedersburg and prominent in fraternal and political affairs in Fountain county for many years, died at 11 o'clock Friday night at the Shannon nursing home in Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there for one week. Mr. Gray served two terms as auditor of Fountain County and he was active in the work of the Democratic Party in the county. A member of the Knights of Pythias lodge, Mr. Gray served for 28 years as a brigadier general in the Knights of Pythias uniformed Rank in Indiana. He also had served for several years as superintendent of the Knights of Pythias home in Lafayette. Mr. Gray was also a member of the Christian church in Veedersburg. For many years he conducted a jewelry store in Veedersburg and also in Waynetown and he also had a clothing and general store in various towns of Fountain County over the years. Mr. Gray was born Dec. 21, 1862, near Waynetown. He was married June 21, 1912, to Zoe V. Jones, who died in February, 1933. Two daughters survive, Mrs. David McNeeley, of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Eugene Johnson, of Boston, Mass. There are three grandchildren. Two sisters also surviving are Mrs. Ina Temple and Mrs. Stella Gott, both of Wingate. The Knights of Pythias lodge will assist in the funeral services which will be held in the J. Frank Parham Funeral home here at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. The lodge will give the funeral ritualistic work, Rev. Harry Davis, of Clermont, will be in charge of the service. Burial will be in the Rockfield cemetery at Veedersburg.
