Daniel Boyd Gray, 63, veteran of World War I and cashier of the Newtown Bank for many years, died at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Martin after returning home from an ice cream social in Newtown Park. He had been in failing health three years. Mr. Gray was born May 4, 1891 in Newtown son of Horace and Rose Emma McClure Gray. He married Annis Martin, June 21, 1923 in Newtown. He was a member of the Newtown Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge and Order of astern Star. He was also a member of the 1913 graduating class of Wabash College. Surviving are the wife: three children, Mrs. Gloria Howard who recently returned from France; Mrs. Joan Howard of Newtown and 1st Lt. Daniel Phillip Gray now en route home from Alaska; 7 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Jessie Ewart of Newtown. The body is at the home of Mrs. Martin with funeral arrangements incomplete pending word from the son in the army. Merryman Funeral Home in Attica is in charge. – kbz

NEWTOWN — Daniel Boyd Gray, 63, prominent Newtown banker and civic leader, died unexpectedly Wednesday night at the home of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Martin, in Newtown after attending an ice cream social at the Newtown Park. Mr. Gray, who was cashier of the Newtown Bank, had been in failing health the past three years. He underwent surgery in April, but appeared to be recovering satisfactorily. Born May 4, 1891, at Newtown, Mr. Gray was the son of Horace and Rose Emma McClure Gray. He married Annis Martin June 21, 1923. Active in the business and civic affairs of Newtown most of his life, Mr. Gray began his business career after graduating from Wabash College in 1913. During World War I he served with American forces in France. Mr. Gray was a member of the Newtown Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and American Legion. He had been active in the Legion many years. Surviving are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Howard and Mrs. Joan Howard; a son, 1st Lt. Daniel Philip Gray; seven grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Jessie Ewart. The son is now en route home from Alaska. Friends may call at the home of the mother-in-law in Newtown.
