GRASS, Herman Joseph - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

COVINGTON - Herman Joseph Grass, age 71, a resident of the Gessie community, west of Covington, since 1940, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at his home on Danville Rt. 5, south of Rileysburg. He had been ill a year. Mr. Grass was born Feb. 14, 1897, at Genevieva, Mo., the son of Joseph and Estella Sarah Hart Grass. He was married June 20, 1935 to Nellie Hensley, who survives. He formerly resided in E. St. Louis, Ill., where he was employed in the steel mills for five years. He had farmed since 1944. He was veteran of Army services during World War I. Surviving, in addition to the wife, is one sister, Mrs. Agnes Owens of St. Louis, Mo. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. Burial was in Hicks Cemetery, west of Perrysville. - jlr
