COVINGTON - Earl Gouty, age 64, a resident of West Lafayette, father of Keith Gouty of Covington and Robert Gouty of Covington Rt. 1, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, in a hospital in Lafayette shortly after he was admitted. Mr. Gouty was born in Warren County, in the State Line community, on Jan. 14, 1907, the son of Ezra and Etta Lape Gouty. He was first married to Verneta Furr, who preceded him in death in 1940. He later married Bernice Wethington, who survives. He had resided in Covington before moving to the Lafayette area 21 years ago. He graduated from Covington High School and the Reich Auctioneering School at Mason City, Iowa. He had been an auctioneer the past 11 or 12 years. He also had served as manager of the Producers Marketing Association in Lafayette for a number of years. Mr. Gouty was a member of the Masonic Lodge 724, F&AM, of West Lafayette; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; and the Indiana Auctioneering Association. Surviving, in addition to the wife are: three sons, Robert Gene of Covington Rt. 3, Keith V. of Covington and David W. of West Lafayette; one daughter, Peggy Ann, at home; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the HippensteeI Funeral Home in Lafayette. The Rev. Harry C. Stolldorf officiated and burial was in the New Gardens Cemetery at West Lafayette. - jlr

Earl L. Gouty, 64, Rt 10, West Lafayette an auctioneer in the community the past 12 years died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital shortly after being admitted. Born near Danville, Ill, he had resided in the Covington Community prior to coming to Lafayette 21 years ago.  His first married was to Verneta Furr who died in 1940. He later married Bernice Wethington and she survives. He was a graduate of Covington HS and Reich Auctioneer's School in Mason City, Iowa. He formerly was manager of the Producers Marketing Association. Mr. Gouty was a member of the West Lafayette Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis and Indiana Auctioneer's Association. Surviving with his widow are three sons: Robert Gene and Keith V both of Covington and David W. of West Lafayette and a daughter, Peggy Ann at home. - kbz
