Newtown, Ind.—Mrs. Vera Mae Gookins, 50, of Veedersburg Route 3, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday (Sept. 15, 1967) in Williamsport Community Hospital where she had undergone surgery two weeks ago. Born May 17, 1917, near Newtown, she was the daughter of Holland and Retha Haverstick Palin. She was married in Hillsboro Oct. 29, 1938, to Hardy Gookins who survives. Also surviving are her mother and a sister, Mrs. Howard Kimbrell, both of rural Newtown. Mrs. Gookins was a past president of the Quigle-Palin American Legion Auxiliary and vice president of the sixth district auxiliary. She was graduated from Newtown High School in 1936 and was a member of the Newtown Methodist Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the DeSutter Funeral Home chapel in Attica with the Rev. Arthur Schenck officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to Community Hospital fund or the Cancer Society.  --typed by Walt W

NEWTOWN — Mrs. Vera Mae Gookins, 50, of near Newtown, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday in Community Hospital at Williamsport, where she had undergone surgery two weeks ago. A native of this community, she was a daughter of Holland and Retha Haverstick Palin and was born May 17, 1917. She was a 1936 graduate of Newtown High School. She married Hardy Gookins on Oct. 29, 1938. Mrs. Gookins was a member of the Newtown Methodist Church. She was a past president and at the time of her death secretary of Quigle-Palin Post Auxiliary of the American Legion and had served as vise president of the 6th District Auxiliary. Surviving are the husband; her mother, Mrs. Retha Palin of Newtown, and a sister, Mrs. Howard Kimbrell of near Thorntown. The body was taken to the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attcia, where arrangements are incomplete.  --typed by Walt W
