Veedersburg—Mrs. Ruth M. Gookins, 79, of Veedersburg Route 3, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 1974 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio. She had been a patient five weeks.
Born Feb. 13, 1895 in Clay County, she was the daughter of George and Elva Miller. She was married to Edward W. Smith, who preceded her in death.
She formerly operated the Veedersburg Auto License Branch for 10 years.
She was a member of the first United Methodist Church of Veedersburg, Valetta Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Theta Nu Chi, and Wednesday Sewing Club and Wabash Valley Flower Club.
Survivors include two stepsons, Kenneth Smith of Zanesville and Gerald Gookins of Veedersburg; three brothers, Wayne of East Chicago, John of Seattle, Wash., and Ray of Illiopolis, Ill.; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Glen Youngblood officiating. Burial was in the West Lebanon Cemetery.
