John E. Gooden, 68, of Attica Route 2, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 30, 1970) at Home Hospital in Lafayette. He was admitted there four hours earlier and had suffered a stroke at his home earlier in the day. Born March 22, 1902, in Roberts Corner, Ind., he was the son of James R. and Lucy Borton Gooden. He was married Dec. 24, 1932, at Lafayette to Martha E. Carter, who died Oct. 2, 1963. Mr. Gooden was a life resident of the area and had retired from farming about three years ago. He was a member of the Elston Stidham Memorial Presbyterian Church. Survivors include four sons, Lowell of Richmond, Major James R. Gooden in Germany; Donald of Indianapolis and Harold at home; a daughter, Mrs. Harriett LaVerne Palmer of New Whiteland, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Harriett) Potter of Lafayette; a brother, Addie of Williamsport; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Billie. Services Saturay at the DeSutter Funeral Home. The Rev. David Detamore officiated. Burial in West Point Cemetery. - jlr
