WILLIAMSPORT — Stanley R. Goen, 78, Williamsport, died at 1:05 pm. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 in the home of his daughter in Williamsport. He was born Sept. 14, 1928 in Sparksville, the son of Lawrence “Lonnie” and Bessie (Branaman) Goen. He was married to Wanda D. Babb Aug. 30, 1952 in Attica. She preceded in death Sept. 3, 2000. He had lived and attended school in Brownstown, later moving to Attica. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as a medic in the U. S. Army. He had formerly worked for Allison Transmission of General Motors in Indianapolis. Upon moving to Attica, he worked at Harrison Steel, Poston Brick Company and C & D Battery. In 1972 he relocated back to Brownstown and worked for Superior Parts of Farm Bureau, until his retirement in 1992. He moved to Williamsport with his daughter in July 2006. He was a member of the Brownstown Nazarene Church and a member of the Sam's Club (Senior Adult Ministries) of the church. While living in Williamsport he had been attending the Wabash Valley Bible Baptist Church He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts of Brownstown. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed working outdoors in the yard and garden. Survivors include: a daughter, Jacqueline “Jacque” (Rick) James, Williamsport; a granddaughter, Amanda James, Mooresville; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Pastor David Adams officiating. Burial with military services were in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions are preferred to the Brownstown Nazarene Church, Wabash Valley Bible Baptist Church, American Diabetes Association or Serenity Hospice.
