Francis Ovilla Cade, daughter of Samuel and Eliza J. Cade, was born at the old home place in Fountain County, Indiana Aug 12, 1857. After a lingering illness of many months, she died at her home on Scott's Prairie June 7 at 4 o'clock p.m. being 52 years, 9 months 25 days old. Francis was the second daughter of a family of 7 children, of whom two brothers, three sisters and her mother survive her. The mother, Mrs. Eliza J. Cade and oldest sister, Mrs. Florence M. Nixon, reside in Veedersburg, Ind. One sister, Mrs. Martha Conover lives at Indianapolis, Ind and another Mrs. Bessie Hurst at Chicago, Ill, the two brothers, Dade and Clifford Cade live on the old farm. Francis Ovilla Cade was united with Henry Glascock in marriage Oct 18 1878. To this union 3 children were born: Troy K; Mattie Gertrude and Samuel Jackson. These survive and were with her to minister to her every want during her long illness. She was a faithful member of the Scott's Prairie Christian Church, having united with that body of disciples under the minister of Elder James Conner who buried her with her Lord in baptistm in August 1880. Francis Ovilla Glascock lived a simple life. She cared nothing for pomp or show. To be a plain Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother was her ambition. She was cheerful in sickness and patient in suffering. Her greatest concern was for the comfort and welfare of her friends and loved ones. She manifested a deep and an abiding sympathy with the unfortunate and the distressed. Her faith in her Saviour was unfaltering. She believed the gospel was for the whole wide world and one of her last acts was to reach a feeble and trembling hand into her own purse and make an offering to foreign missions. In her religious belief and in her manner of living she was chairtable to all those who differed with her. She made her own arrangements for her funeral services and burial, even to naming the place of burial, the kind of casket and grave stone, all of which is to be in keeping with her wish. Few children have had a more devoted mother, few husbands have had a more faithful companion; in death hers is the gain, theirs the loss. The funeral was held at 10:30 o'clock this Friday morning, service being conducted in Scott's Prairie Church by Rev. O.W. McMains. - kbz
