Bonham, Texas—Roy Elman Gerard, 77, Bonham, died Thursday, March 9, 1989 in Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center.
He was born in Covington, the son of Jesse and Eve Hodge Gerard. He was married in 1933 to Cora Noble. He was married in August 1947 in Naples, Italy to Vincenza A. Oriunto, who survives
He was a former Mellott resident for many years. He was a retired master sergeant in the Army Signal Corps and had served in the Pacific in the 593 Jasco and had been in the Army 25 years. He was the recipient of the Medal of Honor
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Sally Bell, Columbia, S. C.; two sons, Richard, Fairmount, Ill., and Robert, Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Bill and Jesse, both of Covington; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Military services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, in Cooper-Sorrelis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. W. C. Beasley officiating. Burial was in Willow Wild Cemetery, Bonham. -s
