  Ray Geiger, 82, Covington, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, April 9, 1979 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. He had been a patient a month.
  A life resident of Covington, Geiger graduated from Covington High School in 1915. He worked as a clerk at the Dennis Grocery for a time and was a mail carrier on Rural Route 1 in Covington for several years.
  Later a pipefitter for several years at the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Shops, he worked in the plumbing and heating business from 1932 until he became ill.
  Geiger was an avid racing fan.
  Born January 8, 1897, in Covington, he was a son of Nicholas and Mary Slattery Geiger. He married Susie Wright August 3, 1922. She survives.
  Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Jean) Bone of Covington; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Alan (Laura Sue) Conner of Jeffersonville, Ind.
  A sister preceded him in death.
  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. James Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation after 3 p.m. Wednesday with family present 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. – thanks to S

COVINGTON - Ray L. Geiger, 82, of Rt. 1, died at 12:15 a.m. today in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been a patient one month. Mr. Geiger was owner and operator of a plumbing and heating business from 1932 until his illness. He previously had been a pipefitter for the railroad at Danville and was a rural mail carrier on Route 1 for many years. He also had worked as a clerk in the Dennis Grocery. He was a life-long resident of Covington and graduated from high school here in 1915. Born Jan. 8, 1897, at Covington, he was a son of Nicholas and Mary Slattery Geiger. He married Susie Wright on Aug. 3, 1922. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Norman (Jean) Bone of Covington; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Alan (Laura Sue) Conner of Jeffersonville. A sister is deceased. Services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here with the Rev. James Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
