VEEDERSBURG — Robert Henry Garrigus, 92, Veedersburg, died at 1:57 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, Ill. He was born Sept. 3, 1914 in Howard, the son of James Cyrus and Ida Ann Garrigus. He married Gwendolyn Jackson in 1944. She preceded in death in 1994. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was stationed in the European Theater of the war and received many awards and medals including a Purple Heart Award for his service in Ardennes/Rhineland. He was a member of the V.E.W. Post #3318 of Attica. He worked for most of his life in the timber and logging industry. Survivors include: a son, Richard Garrigus, Oxford; three granddaughters, Teresa (Selby) Bord Thayer, Crystal Cooper, Covington; and Marsone (Bill Downs, Olivet, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Shelby Bord, Joshua Thomas, Steven Cooper, and Kayla Key his long-time friend, Clara Minnick, Veedersburg. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Ann Berchem; three brothers; and three sisters Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Rush Creek Cemetery, Tangier. – jlr
