MELLOTT — Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Gardner, 85, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Lowell Linville. She also accompanied George Kirk who sang "Home of the Soul" and "God Understands." Loren Hetrick, minister of the New Antioch Christian Church, in Mellott, of which Mrs. Gardner was a member, had charge of the funeral services. Pallbearers were Harold Shultz, Don Carpenter, Homer Shade, Ferman, and Reed Rice and Arthur Hazelgrove. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro. Mrs. Gardner died at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, Saturday night, Jan. 19, after a lingering illness.  --typed by Walt W

Mary E. Gardner succumbed at the Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, January 19th at 9 p.m., where she had been a patient for a few weeks.
She was born Dec. 16, 1871, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel and Elizabeth Death Carpenter.  She was married August 23, 1893 to George Gardner.  He preceded her in death in 1947 and. since then she has resided with Mrs. Blanch Ogle of Newtown.  She lived in the community all her life.
She was a member of the New Antioch Church of Mellott.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Edith Shade and Mrs. Blanch Ogle of Newtown, two brothers, Daniel Carpenter of Winter Haven, Florida and Monroe Carpenter of Mellott.  She is also survived by one nephew and one niece.  She is  preceded in death by two half sisters and three half brothers.
Services were held Tuesday at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Loren Hetrick officiating.  Burial was in Rose
Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Marjorie Linville presided at the organ for the service and also accompanied George Kirk, who sang, "God Understands," and "Home of the Soul."
The pall bearers were Donald Carpenter, Winfred Shade, Art Hazelgrove, Ferman Rice, Reed Rice and Harold Shultz.  Burial wa8 in Rose Hill Cemetery.  - jz
