Mrs. Violet Galvin, 37, died Wednesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth's hospital (29 Aug 1945) , Danville, Ill of burns suffered a few hours before when her car collided with a truck at the Marion Woods cross roads near Tangier.

Mrs. Galvin was driving from her home at Sylvanis, near here, to Turkey Run, where she is employed, when she ran into a coal truck driven by Ralph Lowe, 18 of Veedersburg. The collision sprayed Mr. Galvin with gasoline from the truck's auxiliary tank and the gasoline flamed.

Dr. A.L. Ratcliff, Kingman physician who was caked said that Mrs. Galvin suffered first, second, and third degree burns and that about 85 % of her skin area was burned.  She was taken to the hospital where she died about 3 o'clock more than 7 hours after the accident.

Parke County Sheriff Omer Chaney investigated the accident and said both the car and truck were moving slowly at the time of the collision.  Lowe, who suffered minor burns and scratches was not held. His truck, the property of Clarence Weaver of Veedersburg, was somewhat damaged.

Mrs. Galvin was born Sept 10, 1907 in West Virginia and was married to Dewey (Barney) Galvin. The couple had moved here in 1934 from Darlington. Mr. Galvin is employed in Akron, O but was expected at home this week end.

Other survivors include8 children: PM3c Billy Galvin and Pfc Donald Galvin in the navy; Pfc Normal Galvin, Camp LIvington, La; Mrs. Mary Mildred Koffer, Kingman and Edna Louise Joan, Richard and Dale Galvin, all at home.   --- transcribed by kbz
