Attica, Ind – Charles A. Eviston who served three terms as mayor of Attica died Sunday night in a Veterans’ Administration hospital at Hines, Ill, it was learned here yesterday. He was 73 years old. Mr. Eviston was Attica’s mayor from 1935-1947. He was a Republican. During the last several years, he was personnel director of Harrison Steel Castings Company.  Funeral services will be held here at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Eviston residence. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Ruth Nave Eviston; three brothers, Albert Evison, Cleveland, O; James Eviston, Miami, Fla and Frank Eviston, Kansas City, Mo. And a sister, Mrs. James Claitor, Galveston, Tx. – kbz

Charles A. Eviston, 73 well known county man former Attica mayor and employment official of Harrison Steel died Sunday at the Hines Veterans’ Hospital in Hines, Ill.  Mr. Eviston was a veteran of the Spanish-American War.  Mr. Eviston was born Aug 3, 1879 at Peru, Ind son of James and Minerva Bunett Eviston.  He was married in 1909 to Ruth Nave of Attica who survives.  He came to Attica 45 years ago as an employee of the Wabash railroad. He later operated a candy store and managed the Wabash Creamery. He served as mayor for 13 years and during that time organized Order of Boys’ Club.  He was elected Attica’s Citizen Number One in 1938.  He was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Rotary Club, Elks Lodge at Lafayette and Attica Loyal Order of Moose Lodge.  Also surviving are three brothers, Frank of Kansas City, Mo; Albert of Cleveland O and James of Miami Fla and a sister, Mrs. James Claiter of Galveston, Tex.  Funeral services were held Wednesday at the family residence with burial in Riverside Cemetery. – kbz
