Covington – Niles Ora Evans, age 75 a lifetime resident of Covington died at 10 a.m. Saturday Jan 25 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill where he had been a patient six days. He was ill one week. Mr. Evans was born July 6, 1893 in Covington, the son of Charles E. and Mary Peters Evans. He married Lucille Ward in May 1918 and she preceded him in death in May 1930. He was employed at the post office, owned a tavern and was a barber before retiring. He was a member and past commander two times of the Fulton-Banta Post 291 American Legion of Covington; a 50-year member of Tidal Lodge 36, Knight of Pythias; a 50-year member of Fountain Lodge 60 F&AM of Covington and member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis. He was a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one son, William of San Jose, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Alta M. Sally of Colorado Springs, Colo and Mrs. Mary Lou Mornout of Veedersburg; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Gardner of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Edith Bruner officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery here. Military rites were conducted at the graveside. – kbz
