Source: Obituary from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana, now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (CNS) — Mrs. Lillie Evans, 101, Williamsport's oldest citizen, died at 3 p.m. Monday (June 9, 1969) at Community Hospital after an illness of 10 days. Mrs. Evans, whose parents were William and Martha Ann Abolt Briggs, was born Feb. 23, 1868, on a farm northwest of West Lebanon. On March 9, 1886 she married William H. Evans. In 1900 she and her husband moved to 16 Boyer St., where she resided the rest of her life. Mrs. Evans remained a remarkably active person and took an active interest in people, the community, and especially her church. She was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church and attended church services and functions regularly. She walked to the church which was a block and a half from her home. She was also a member of Rocky Dale Chapter No. 111 of the Order of Eastern Star at Williamsport. On Mrs. Evan's 99th birthday she was the "belle of the day" on the Don McNeill Show in Chicago and received 181 cards from all over the country that year. Last November Congressman John T. Myers of Covington took her to the polls so she could cast her vote. Mrs. Evans continued to do her own housework, wrote many letters, read the Bible, and listened to her radio in the last few years. Mrs. Evans is survived by a son, Ralph of Encino, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Etta LeClaire of Danville, Ill.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys, in 1960. Arrangements are pending at the Crowmer and Siddens Funeral Home.  -- typed by Walt W
