ERWIN, Louella Auglin Gilbert

A precious one from us has gone, a voice we loved is still. Louella, daughter of Thomas and Permelia Wood Auglin was born near Frankfort, Ind on Jan 29, 1870. When she was 12 years old her mother passed away leaving her to help her father care for three younger sisters. On Dec 12, 1891 she was united in marriage to Timothy Gilbert. One daughter, Sarah Permelia, was born to this union. Timothy Gilbert passed away to his reward on Oct 26, 1893. Then in 1901 she was married to John B. Erwin who died on Feb 22, 1909. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Sadie Lindquist at whose home she was in during her week’s sickness; Mrs. Esther Erwin Gilbert of Tigard, Ore; Mrs. Cecil Erwin Taute of Indianapolis and Mrs. Faye Erwin Ford of Greenville, Texas. Also one sister, Mrs. Lucinda Songer. Eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren survive, also nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Hepler and Mrs. Elizabeth Leming preceded her in death. At the age of 19 she united with the Bend ME Church, north of Covington, later placing her membership with the New Century EUB Church where she was a faithful member and worker. She was a member of the New Century Ladies Aid, the Veedersburg EUB Ladies Aid and Missionary Society and also Class Eleven. It was her request that the 23rd Psalm be read and the Old Rugged Cross and Sweet Hour of Prayer be sung. She was laid to rest beside her husband, Timothy Gilbert in the Bend Cemetery north of Covington. Pall bearers were the six grandsons. Tribute bearers were five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, nieces and friends from the churches. – thanks to Brenda
