Services for Mrs. Martha Viola Johnson Emery, 75, who died Tuesday, Jan. 8th in her Hotel Wolford
apartment in Danville, Ill., were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Berhalter Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ralph Smith officiated. The body was taken to St. Louis for cremation following the services.
Mrs. Emery was the widow of Jacob S. Emery, owner of the Emery Dry Goods Co., a leading department store in Danville in
the World War I era.
She was born Aug. 17, 1881, in Fountain County, Ind., daughter of William and Elizabeth Booe Johnson.
She was married early in life to Clifford Reed of Veedersburg and for some time resided in the Veedersburg vicinity following the death of Mr. Reed.
She was married to Mr. Emery in New York City in 1917. He died in 1942. A daughter by her first marriage also preceded her in
death.
Survivors include a brother, Louis Johnson of Attica and a son-in-law, Harvey Hyde of Ogdensburg, N. Y.
