ELWELL, Sylvester - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Sylvester H. Elwell, mention of whose illness was made in the Ledger last week died at his home in Yeddo on Monday, the funeral being Wednesday. Mr. Elwell was one of Fountain County's early politicians who was of great aid to his party in switching the county from Democratic to Republican principles. For 8 years he was county auditor, performing his duties in a highly satisfactory manner. Notwithstandin ghis partisanship he made himself popular with his opponents, who recognized his kindly nature and human characteristics. He was a very likeable man, generous to a fault, with a sympathetic heart that was never appealed to in vain. Until he retired to his farm on account of ill health no man in the county had more acquaintances or warmer friends.
