Pioneer Resident of County Died Saturday
Mrs. Martha Ellis, 85, the last surviving member of one of the pioneer families of the vicinity of Hillsboro, passed away at her home south of Hillsboro, Saturday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Mrs. Ellis was sitting in a chair near the stove when she suffered a stroke of paralysis and succumbed thirty minutes after being stricken.
A native of Fountain County, she was born June 3, 1853, the daughter of Henry and Mary Hiestand Bever. She was one of a family of seven children, the father having entered land from the government in the vicinity in 1825.
She was married to John R. Ellis, who died nine years ago. A son, Henry Ellis, also preceded his mother in death. She was a member of the Prairie Chapel church and all of her life had been spent in the vicinity.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred Wilson, of Covington and Mrs. Dee Wilson, who made her home with her mother; six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Orville Woody, pastor of the Prairie Chapel church, were held from the late home Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Pall bearers were Lloyd Ellis, Lester and Billy Swank, Marvin Lough, Herman Hamm and Kenneth Rayburn. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. A number of relatives and friends from a distance attended the service.
