ELLIS, John L. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Hillsboro - Dec 5 -- John Ellis, well known resident of the Ingersoll Chapel neighborhood, was found dead at his home Sunday night apparently the victim of a hemorrhage. Clifford C. Crumley, Fountain County coroner who was called to investigate, estimated that Mr. Ellis had been dead since Thursday. The deceased was 76 and was last seen Thursday evening. He was never married and had lived alone on his farm. His body was discovered lying on a bed by his brother, Charles who resides on a nearby farm. The brother, fearing something might be wrong, went to the home Sunday evening to investigate. Upon his arrival there he found the house locked. Summoning Clayton Ingersoll, a neighbor, the brother and Mr. Ingersoll saw Mr. Ellis through a window. An examination disclosed that he had been dead for some time. Mr. Ellis was the son of Louis & Sarah Ellis and was born Nov 5, 1856 on the farm where he died. He is survived by his brother and a nephew, J.W. Swisher of near Crawfordsville. The body was removed to Hillsboro where the funeral services were held Monday afternoon. Burial in Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown.
