Raines Egdorf, 98, Attica, died Sunday, September 24, 2000 at 10:02 p.m. at
Country Care Nursing Center, Williamsport. Born in Williamsport on September
15, 1902 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Charlotte (McDonald)
Belangea. A graduate of Williamsport High School, she furthered her education
by graduating from Danville (Ind.) Teachers College. She spent a brief time in
Fowler, before moving to Attica in 1976. Mrs. Egdorf taught fourth grade at
Williamsport Elementary, West Lebanon Elementary and Fowler Catholic School.
She taught at Hedrick Smith School, which was a one-room school house, that
taught students up to the 8th grade. She was a member of the Attica
Presbyterian Church and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Egdorf loved
to read and do needle work. She devoted most of her time enlightening the minds
of her students. She was an avid listener of WFOF (90.3) Radio in Covington.
She first married Alfred Raines in 1930. He preceded her in death in 1958. She
married Louis Egdorf in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1985. Surviving, are:
two stepsons, Virgil (Delores) Egdorf and Warren (Joyce) Egdorf, both of
Illinois; stepdaughter, Pearl Kampe of Illinois; two nieces, Lois (Robert)
Martin and Margaret (Robert) Swank, both of Attica; one nephew, Don (Ann)
Johnson of Lafayette; three stepgrandsons and one stepgranddaughter. She was
also preceded in death by two sisters, Nell Johnson and Inez Biggs. Visitation
was prior to service on Wednesday at Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with Rev. John
DeSanto officiating. Interment in West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions
