Veedersburg – Fred E. Edwards, 62 of Rt 2, Veedersburg died Wednesday in a Danville, Ill hospital of injuries suffered June 4 in an accident on US 41 near Veedersburg, his wife, Nina, 57 was killed in the wreck. Edward’s death boosts Fountain County’s traffic fatality count to four for the year all within the past four weeks. Edwards had been hospitalized since June 4 after the pickup which he was driving was struck broadside as he was crossing US 41 from Simpson Road. At the time he was hospitalized he was said to have been in good condition, suffering chest pains. His wife died that same evening at the hospital from head and internal injuries. Their 11-year old grandson, Thomas Edwards, a passenger in the pickup was also hospitalized following the accident, with cuts, bruises and a broken arm. Killer Highway 41 claimed the life of another Indiana man Wednesday, Oren Branneman, 85 of Rt 5, Brazil was injured fatally Wednesday when a car veered off US 41 about two miles south of Farmersburg and struck a log truck parked in a field. Fred E. Edwards was born in Fountain County on June 12, 1907 the son of Thomas and Nora Belle Gillian Edwards. His marriage to Nina Keller was on Oct 1, 1928. Surviving are three sons, Thomas of Ft. Smith, Ark; Billy in the Navy in Vietnam, Fred Jr, Romana, Calif; 18 grandchildren; one great grandchild and one brother, Manford, Lafayette. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday at Fishero Funeral Home where funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Earl Carmichael officiating. Burial will be at Centennial Cemetery. – kbz

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. (CNS) — Fred Edwards, 62, of Veedersburg Route 2, died at 7:40 a.m. yesterday (June 25, 1969) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. Death was attributed to injuries sustained in an auto accident June 4 at Simpson Corner on Route 41. Born June 12, 1907, in Fountain County, he was the son of Thomas and Nora Belle Gillian Edwards. He was married Oct. 1, 1928, to Nina Keller, who died June 4, 1969, as a result of the same accident. He was employed at the Fountain Foundry in Veedersburg. Survivors include three sons, Thomas of Fort Smith, Ark., William in the Navy in Vietnam and Fred Jr. of Romona, Calif.; a brother, Amford of Lafayette; 18 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Fisher Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl Carmichael will officiate. Burial will be in Centennial Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.
