Funeral services for Roy J. Eberle, age 71, who died at 3:35 p. m. Thursday, May 10, at his home at 716 Jefferson St., were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. Mr. Eberle, who had been a resident of this community since 1920, had been in ill health six month. He was born Dec. 15, 1890, east of Pine Village, the son of John G. and Anna E. Short Eberle. He was married Dec. 19, 1911 to Ella E. Cox, who survives. He went to work for the old Mayer Hardware Store, now the Faust & Frey Hardware Store, May 15, 1922 and retired in January 1959. Mr. Eberle was a member of the First Methodist Church here and had served on the official church board and other offices for many years. He last served as trustee and since May 1, 1962, when his term expired, had been a trustee emeritus. Mr. Eberle was a member of Fountain Lodge 60, F&AM, and Troy Chapter 145, Order of Eastern Star. He had spent a number of years working with and as a member of the old Covington band. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is one sister, Mrs. Ora Anna Hughes of Mattoon, Ill. The Rev. Donald Wade, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated at the funeral services. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery where Masonic services were conducted by Fountain Lodge 60. Pallbearers were: Guy Faust, Charles Frey, Merle VanLeer, William R. Morton, James P. Hastings and Nelson Galloway.
