HILLSBORO — Ellis E. “Gene”
Dotson, 83, 406 Hobson St., Hillsboro, died at 3:07 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005
in St. Clare Medical Center, Crawfordsville. He was born June 8, 1922 in Parke
County, the son of Frank and Ruby (Hutts) Dotson. He married Virginia Rose
Ferguson Nov. 12, 1949 in Richmond, Ky. She preceded in death Dec. 16, 2000. He
graduated from Tangier High School and the University of Illinois. He moved
from Antioch, Ill. to Hillsboro in 1977. He served in the U. S. Army from
December 1942 to March 1946. He campaigned in Europe, receiving Battle Stars
for Central Europe, Rhineland and Battle of the Bulge. He served as manager of
the Officers Club and Bachelor Officers Quarters at the Great Lakes Naval
Station for over 25 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Elks,
Crawfordsville; American Legion, Kingman; V.F.W., Antioch, Ill. and the Hillsboro
United Methodist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Stephen E. (Jewell)
Dotson and William B. Dotson, both of Hillsboro; two brothers, Kenneth Dotson,
Crawfordsville and Gerald (Betty) Dotson, Hillsboro; and four grandchildren,
Sean and Connor Ellis and Lyra and Dylan Britton. Funeral services were at 2
p.m. Friday in the Hillsboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Linda Lawler
officiating. Burial with military honors was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
