Mrs. Alta E. Dodge, 74 well known Veedersburg woman died suddenly at her home Wednesday morning about 9 a.m. Mrs. Nellie Dice who shared the home with her and Mrs. Dodge had arisen as usual but the latter complained of nausea and afterward after foregoing breakfast was found collapsed in the bathroom. Harley Hesler, a neighbor was called by Mrs. Dice and carried Mrs. Dodge to her bed. Dr. CB McCord found she had expired before he arrived and summoned Coroner Charles Fishero. After learning the circumstances, Mr. Fishero returned to his home and concluded that a heart ailment had caused death. Mrs. Dodge’s health had not been the best but she had attended church Sunday morning and no such development had been anticipated. She was born at Hoopeston Ill Jan 28, 1876 the daughter of William and Mrs. Emma Slusser Dove. She was married to William H. Dodge who died several months ago on Feb 1, 1899 (sic). The Dodges had happily celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Shuppert of Attica, one brother, Alva of Chicago, two half sisters, Mrs. Hiram Johnson of Faze, Minn and Mrs. HR Duncan of Fargo, ND. One brother died in infancy. The late Mr. Dodge had been Standard Oil representative here many years and also had been trustee of Van Burean Twp. Mrs. Dodge had been a member of the Methodist Church and was interested in all community betterment. The son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Shuppert had the body removed to the Fishero Funeral Home and it was taken home at 10 a.m. Thursday to await funeral services at 3 p.m. today (Fri) at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Fred Chelan. Burial took place at Shawnee Mount Cemetery. – kbz

Alta Ellen Dodge was born on Jan 28, 1876 near Hoopeston, Ill the daughter of William and Emma Slusser Dove. Her mother when she was 10 years old and she was practically a mother and housekeeper for her father and three younger brothers, who then lived in Minnesota. She was married to William H. Dodge Feb 1, 1899 to this union were born two children, one son Guy Edward who died in infancy and one daughter Mrs. Dorotha D. Shuppert of Attica, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Dodge celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Feb 6, 1949 which both enjoyed so very much, they both being so devoted to one another. Surviving besides the daughter are a brother Alva E. Dove of Chicago and two half sisters, Mrs. Herman Johnson of Fraze, Minn and Mrs. HR Duncan of Fargo, N Dak. Mrs. Dodge was a member of the Methodist Church in Veedersburg and also a member of Valetta Chapter Order of Eastern Star. The Rev. Fred Chelan conducted the funeral at the Methodist Church in Veedersburg. Burial was made at the Shawnee Mount Cemetery near Wingate, Indiana – kbz
