Dr. Layton Dochterman, age 48, native of Covington and only child of Mrs. Ida Dochterman of this city died unexpectedly at 3:L0 a.m. Sunday in Englewood Hospital, Chicago Ill of acute coronary occlusion. Dr. Dochterman was born in Covington June 8, 1901 the only child of Charles H. and Ida Layton Dochterman. He was married to Josephine Wallace who survives on Nov 17, 1931. He was graduated from Covington HS and in 1935 from the Chicago Dental College. He has been practicing dentistry in Chicago since graduation from college. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Rho Tau dental fraternity. He was also a member of the Elks. Surviving Dr. Dochterman are: mother; his widow and two sons, John age 10 and James age 5. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the local Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Everett L. Jones, pastor officiated and burial with Bodine & Shelby in charge was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Alex Mitchell and Roe Reed, Chicago and Clifford Martin, Jack Morre, Leland Moore, Mac Sullivan, city. William Morton was the soloist and members of the Queen Esther Circle of the Presbyterian Church were flower girls. Among those from out-of-town who attended the funeral services were: Mrs. Dochterman’s mother, Mrs. Sophia Wallace of Youngstown, Ohio; her sister, Mrs. Joe Shearer and Mr. Shearer of Novelty, Ohio; and Mr. and Mrs. Roe Reed; Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mitchell; Mrs. William Gregg; Mrs. Elmer Dahl and son, Howard; Mrs. Thelma McWhorter; Waldo Pepper and Vincent Conforti; all of Chicago Ill. Also, Mr. and Mrs. LC Scheifly and son, Jack of Huntington, W Va; Mrs. Everett DeWitt of Goodwin, Ill; Mrs. Carrie Sistler of Hoopeston, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. LD Singley of Waynetown and AN Adkins of Danville. – thanks so very very much to this and several other obituaries sent by Judi N.
