Raymond Roscoe Dobbs, son of Edward and Lillie Bell Hall Dobbs was born in Veedersburg, Indiana May 20, 1916. He was born in this community very near the place where his death had occurred and where he spent his entire life. Raymond attended the Sterling Grace School and the Veedersburg HS. Early in life, he became employed as a cream buyer and worked with the Indiana Condensed Milk Company operating a route, which went into the northern rural section of t his area and through his efforts and these contacts he made many friends. On Oct 25, 1941 he married Ella Marie Blacketer of Covington. To this union was born four children, an infant stillborn Jan 25, 1944; Diane Jean age 5; Alan Duane age 2 and Steven the youngest age 4 months. He entered into the services of his country entering into the Army on Feb 7, 1942. Raymond was a member of the Sterling Congregational Christian Church and was converted in 1947. He attended the Sterling Congregational Christian Church since his very early life and was an active member of the church. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge No 491 of Veedersburg and was a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star of Veedersburg. Death came suddenly to Raymond at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning July 18, 1956 at his home with no previous illness or sickness. His death was due to a coronary thrombosis. Iin his passing he leaves to survive him, his wife, Ella Marie Blacketer Dobbs, the three children Diana Jean, Alan Duane and Steven; he also leaves to survive from his mother and father, Edward and Lillie Hall Dobbs and 8 brothers and sisters: Rev. Alfred Dobbs; Gladys Helms; Dorothy Drollinger, Vivian Rudisill all of this community, Mary Jackson and Louis Hershberger of Veedersburg, Edward Dobbs, Jr in the Army stationed in El Paso, Texas and Mildred Simpson of Wallace, Ind. Raymond R. Dobbs, 40, buyer for the Sugar Creek Creamery of Danville and a WWII veteran died suddenly at his home at 4 a.m. Wednesday. He was born in Veedersburg on May 20, 1916 the son of Edward and Lillie Hall Dobbs. He married Ella Marie Blacketer in 1943 and she survives. Also surviving are the parents: three children, Diana Jean 5, Allen Duane 2 and Stephen four months: six sisters, Mrs. Gladys Helms, Mrs. Dorothy Drollinger, Mrs. Vivian Rudisell, Mrs. Mary Jackson, Mrs. Louise Hershberger and Mrs. Mildred Simpson; two brothers, the Rev. Alfred Dobbs of Veedersburg and Edward Dobbs, Jr. stationed in the army in Texas. He was a member of the Sterling Christian Church, the Veedersburg Masonic Lodge and Past Patron of the Eastern Star. The body was taken to the residence Wednesday evening where friends may call. . Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Sterling Christian Church with Rev. Guy Walters officiating. Full Masonic ritual will be conducted. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery. The Fishero Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. – kbz
