Veedersburg - Richard R. Dobbs, 73, a retired Nickel Plate railroader and a former employee of Veedersburg brick plants, was found dead in his bed at 6 a.m. Saturday. He had been in failing health for a number of years. Born Aug 12, 1883 in Pulaski, Ky., Mr. Dobbs was the son of Frank and Melissa Dobbs. He married Lillie Hall June 23, 1906. He was a member of the Sterling christian Church and had lived in Veedersburg since 1912. Survivors include the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Jackson, Mrs. Dorothy Drollinger, Mrs. Vivian Rudisell and Mrs. Louise Hershberger, all of Veedersburg; another daughter, Mrs. Mildred Simpson of Kingman; two sons, Rev. Alfred Dodds of Veedersburg and Edward D. Dobbs Jr., living in California; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sns and four daughters. The body was taken to the Fishero Funeral Home. Arrangements for the services are incomplete. (thanks, Beth)

Edward R. Dobbs, 73, of Veedersburg was found dead in his bed at 6 a.m. Saturday, May 4. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born August 12, 1883 at Pulaski, Kentucky, the son of Frank and Melissa Dobbs. He married Lillie B. Hall on June 23, 1906.
Mr. Dobbs had lived in Veedersburg for 45 years and had been employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad and the local brick yards. He was a member of the Sterling Congregational Christian Church.
Survivors are his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Mary Jackson, Dorothy Drollinger, Vivian Rudisill, and Louise Hershberger all of Veedersburg, and Mildred Simpson of Wallace; two sons, Edward Jr. of Dinuba, California and the Rev. Alfred Dobbs of Veedersburg, pastor of the Sterling Church; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Four sons and four daughters preceded him in death.
A private prayer service was held in the family home at 1:00. The funeral services were held at 2:00 in the Sterling Christian
Church with the Rev. E. V: Wamsley officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery with the Fishero Funeral Home in charge. - jz

Edward Roscoe Dobbs, son of Franklin and Melissa Higgins Dobbs was born in Pulaski County, Pulaski, Kentucky on August 12, 1883 and departed this life May 4, 1957, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 21 days.
He was united in marriage to Lillie B. Hall on June 23, 1906 in Greencastle, Indiana. To this union was born six sons and ten daughters.
The early part of his married life was spent in farming at Greencastle, Indiana where they resided. In 1912, he retired from farming and moved to the Veedersburg community where he became engaged in public work with the Veedersburg brick yard and the Nickel Plate Railroad where he labored as a section hand, having retired from active duty 10 years ago.
He leaves to mourn his passing, Lillie, his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Gladys Helms, Mrs. Dorothy Drollinger, Mrs. Vivian Rudisill, Mrs. Mary Jackson, Mrs. Louise Hershberger and Mrs. Annie Simpson, all of Veedersburg and two sons, The Rev. Alfred Dobbs of Veedersburg and Edward Jr. of Dinuba, California; 14. grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
