DIX, Marinda J. - 1902 - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Marinda J., daughter of Robt. H. and Elizabeth J. Dix, was born Jan 12, 1871, died, July 21, 1902, aged 31 years, 6 months and 2 days. Marne, as she was familiarly called, was of a shunshiny disposition, possessed high ideals and was very ambitious to achieve success in whatever she undertook. Her determination led her to tax the physical system beyond its

power of endurance. For several years she had suffered from nervous exhaustion until nearly two months ago, when the sluggish brain refused to obey her call, while the spirit yet remained in its prison, as if to show us how dreadful this world would be were we all to live our life here after the material organs had ceased to be a help and had become a hindrance.

Last Saturday she was taken with stomach and intestinal trouble which resulted in death Monday morning near 6 o’clock, and the emancipated spirit entered upon a new through unseen habitation for its larger development. When about fifteen years old, under the ministry of Bro. Phillips during a series of meetings held at Pleasant Grove Church, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. About two years afterward, having become somewhat indifferent as to her religious obligations, she renewed her covenant with her Heavenly Father under the ministry of Bro. Kenworthy in a series of meetings held at Rush

Creek. These were the starting points of a …….. exemplified itself in many practical ways.  She read her Bible and communed with God in prayer. When at home she admonished the children, especially her younger brothers, to be good and obedient. At the beginning of her last illness she expressed herself to her sister Allie that her tine was short saying “Tell the folks at home to meet me in heaven.” Her love for and patience with the little ones was remarkable, often talking to them and trying to lead and direct them in the paths of rightousness. She often advised her sister as to the training of the children. While we consign this body to earth from which it came “dust to dust” and “ashes to ashes,” …….. had entered upon …….. which it had been unconsciously preparing, we believe a greater life of divine service than was possible on earth.- jlr
