COVINGTON -- John Maurice Dewlen, prominent Fountain County farmer, died Sunday night at his home on Rt. 3, Covington. Mr. Dewlen, 46, had suffered from a heart condition for over a year. The deceased had owned and operated the farm for nearly all his adult life, and was a member of the Covington Consolidated Schools Holding Corporation. In addition, he was a member of the Salem Methodist Church, and Tidal Lodge 36, Knights of Pythias. Born on May 2, 1922 in Covington, he was the son of John LaMont and Clara Young Dewlen. His wife, the former Naomi Ritenour, survives. Besides his wife, Mr. Dewlen is survived by his mother; three sons, Phillip, who resided next door and Jimmie and Tom, who live at home; four daughters, Mrs. Jeanie Cooke of Danville, Ill., and Vickie, Melody and Robin, who also live at home. He was preceded in death by a brother. Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the Hegg Funeral Home. Services will be held at the Salem Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Edith Bruner officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery - waw

Covington – John Maurice Dewlen, 46, Rt 1, Covington, a life resident of the Covington community died early Monday morning Nov 25 unexpectedly in his sleep. He was born near Covington May 2, 1922, the son of Mrs. Clara Young Dewlen Ratcliff and the late John LaMont Dewlen. He was married March 16, 1958 to Naomi Ritenour who survives. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Tidal Lodge 36; Knights of Pythias and the Covington HS building corporation.  Surviving in addition to the wife are three sons: Phillip, Rt 3 Covington; Jimmy and Tom at home; four daughters, Jeanie Cooke, Danville, Ill; Vickie, Melody and Robin at home; his mother of Covington. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Church where the body laid in state one hour. Rev. Edith Bruner, pastor of the church officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. - kbz
